1 Timothy 6:7
For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it

Hi! Pastor Bob here. Welcome back to the Men of Valor and Daily Living podcast. The verse for today is from First Timothy chapter 6 verse 7 and it states, “for we brought nothing into the world and we can take nothing out of it.” What if I told you Janet and I just returned from a 4 day trip to Florida, and we are so exhausted - but not from playing with our grandchildren as you may think - but from renovating the apartment that we rented? We painted it, got a big 75 inch TV, and put in some new carpeting. And then you ask me: “why would you ever spend time and money on something so temporary? I would never do that!”

But the truth is you probably have spent your entire life doing exactly that. You will be renting this tent, as the Bible calls our body, this body, while we're on earth for X amount of time. Everything you acquire will stay on earth when you die, and yet you know that eternity will go on and on forever. Yet how often do you think of the now time versus eternity time? If someone could read your thoughts or follow you and see your actions for the last 10 years, would they say the focus of your life was on the temporary “I need it now” time, or would they say, “wow, you keep your mind on things above and your hearts on things, above just as it says in Colossians 3.”

”It’s time we stop and think what we’re doing!”
There was a saying I used to hear: “he is so heavenly minded that he is no earthly good.” Yet almost everyone I knew, including the man that I used to look in the mirror with every day would say, “he is so earthly minded that he is no heavenly good.” Think about this: do we spend our time on that “I need it now” or do we spend our money on that “I need it now”? Do we raise our children on the “I need it now” philosophy? We have absolutely become so microwave-mentality oriented that even a minute in the microwave is too slow, and fast food has lost its meaning of fast if it takes longer than 2 minutes.

”Stop and think: do my actions today show that I was all about God? Heaven? Judgment? Jesus Christ? The cross? Repentance?”
One of the most common questions I get when I tell people about our church service is “Well, how long does it last?” It's rare that someone asks me: “Is God's presence there? Are there signs, wonders, and miracles taking place? People being transformed and becoming born again? Nope... it's usually that question about: “well, how long does the service take? I like quick services.” It's time we stop and think what we're doing!

Does this sound familiar: you get up every morning, shower, brush your teeth, eat breakfast, go to work, come home, eat again, sleep, and then the next day, guess what? You get up, shower, brush your teeth, eat breakfast, go to work, come home, eat again, sleep, and guess what? You repeat it, you repeat it, because we are taught to have a “I need it now” mentality. Are you on the hamster wheel of life, running faster and faster and eventually you run out of steam, you pass on, and you have nothing to show any evidence in your life that shows we were really eternally minded?

”Remember: there is a judgment day that is coming, and nothing is more important than getting to know the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Stop and think: do my actions today show that I was all about God? Heaven? Judgment? Jesus Christ? The cross? Repentance? Or were they about me, me, me, and my desire for things now? What priority would your walk be with God, if you were every day thinking you were going to see Him face to face in very near future, and either hear Him say, “well done, good and faithful servant”; or hear Him say, “get away from me! I never knew you.”

Just like the hotel room, there is a check out day. Are you checking out and going to an indescribably beautiful place for eternity with the One true magnificent God? Are you leaving all your earthly improvements here and moving on to one burning hot location for eternity? Check out time is getting closer and closer and closer. Remember: there is a judgment day that is coming, and nothing is more important than getting to know the Lord Jesus Christ. What an amazing God we serve. God bless you all.
