God Reveals Himself

Since the beginning of time, God has been speaking His word in order to reveal Himself to us. He created mankind after His own image. We were created for God... to know Him, to love Him, and to seek after Him.

God tells us He has great things prepared for the lives of those who are His, but that these things are hidden to our eyes, ears, and mind:

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him" (1 Cor. 2:9).

Yet even now, God is looking to reveal Himself in all of His glory, goodness and power. That which was once hidden in God, is now revealed by God. There is a deeper satisfaction, a higher calling, an abundant life available to the one who learns to seek after His revealed word.

Jesus said, “...I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10b).

The abundant life is real, and it fills us completely with true life found in the revealed word of God. For the one whose heart yearns for more, God opens up His word and reveals Himself.  May we come to see, hear, and conceive the revelation of His word even now!

Jesus Christ, the Revealed Word

God is looking to reveal Himself to us. When God reveals Himself to a person, that person truly experiences heaven on earth and cannot help but to make this incredible God known to others. The Bible, in fact, was written by men who encountered the revealed word. The disciple John described this revealing of God’s word:

“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched--this we proclaim concerning the Word of life” (1 John 1:1).

Jesus is the Word of God, the living Word!
The revealed word was John’s encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is the revealed Word of God. Through Him, the disciples came to know the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This encounter transformed their lives forever. They received in Christ what they had hungered for, and they were never the same.

Inspired by the Holy Spirit, they began to write down what God had revealed to them and now wanted to reveal to us. If we ponder that for just a moment, how valuable is the precious Bible that we hold in our hands? How precious is this letter personally written by God in order to reveal Himself to us?

Perhaps that is why so many men and women over the ages have died for this book… even for a ripped page from this book. Surely this is because when they laid their eyes upon the Scriptures, they were blessed to have encountered the light of the revealed word of God, who is the Lord Jesus Christ.

The light of Jesus Christ is shining out in a dark world like never before!

Revealed Word of the Spirit

Throughout the Scriptures, God revealed Himself through the Holy Spirit. As mentioned earlier, the Bible tells us that no mind can conceive or imagine what God has prepared for those who love Him. Paul then reveals something very wonderful in the next verse:

“...these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God” (2 Cor. 2:10).

We come to know the things of God by His Spirit. When the Holy Spirit opens the eyes of our hearts to perceive His word in its fullness, this word brings understanding to our minds.

This spirit-revealed understanding is called “revelation!”

" We also have the hope of our lives being forever changed."
Not all who lived during the time of Jesus understood who He was; they were spiritually blind. Only those to whom the Spirit was given received revelation. For this reason, Jesus asked His disciples who they believed He was in Matthew 16:15-18:

“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”

The Holy Spirit revealed Jesus Christ to Peter, and “on this rock,” or upon this revelation of the Word, Jesus would build His church. The Church living in the Spirit-revealed word of God has and always will prevail against the gates of hell.

The Word became flesh when Mary was overshadowed by the Holy Spirit and empowered to conceive Jesus, and her life forever changed. God’s character, will and heavenly kingdom were revealed in the person of His Son.

Before that time, only the Jews were God’s chosen people, destined to inherit eternal life with God. The birth of Jesus brought hope of salvation to the Gentiles. Now we also can be overshadowed by the Holy Spirit. We also can conceive Jesus.  We also have the hope of our lives being forever changed. When the Lord Jesus is revealed to us, He becomes the Hope living inside of us, the hope of salvation for all who believe.

What is this hope? To escape the damnation of hell and to live with God forever, to dwell in His glory for eternity. This is what the Scripture means when it says in Colossians 1:2,

“To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

In this way, we become God’s letter. We become His Scripture as we carry the glorious riches of Jesus Christ within... walking, living, breathing the abundant life of His revealed word.

Revealed Word of Truth

The revealed word is the word of truth. When the Holy Spirit reveals the absolute truth of God’s word to us, we are able to use that word to discern between what is true and what is a lie, what is right and what is wrong.

We see this when the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus during His baptism as the Father spoke these powerful words: “This is my beloved Son in Whom I am well-pleased!”  The Holy Spirit then led Jesus into the wilderness to be tested. After fasting 40 days, the devil came to Jesus and actually used Scriptures to tempt Him. The devil tried to twist God’s word in order to manipulate Jesus into worshiping him instead of God.

Jesus, empowered by the Spirit, spoke the revealed word of truth, refuting every lie. He overcame every temptation and revealed Himself as God’s beloved Son! He lived in the power of the Spirit to fully obey the Father’s will and fulfill every commandment! Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life.

When the Holy Spirit enters, the absolute Truth enters, who is the Lord Jesus Christ. Every thought, every opinion, every attitude, and every feeling bows to Him. The chains of relativism, confusion, doubt, fear, and insecurity fall off of you, and the absolute truth of the revealed word empowers you to live in absolute victory!

Revealed Word of Love

The revealed word separates you from the bondage of sin and joins you to God. Although the Pharisees knew God’s word, they did not obey it.  This is because the letter of the law kills, but the spirit of the law gives life. They were jealous of Jesus (the revealed Word) because they desired the praise of men rather than God.

Only the Holy Spirit can open a man’s eyes to see his sin and desperate need for a savior.  The Holy Spirit reveals and activates the TRUTH of God’s word by bringing personal conviction of sin. Only then can the word of salvation, the gospel of truth, be revealed.

"Let us embrace the full counsel of God, asking Him to reveal the Lord Jesus Christ..."
This is called the gift of repentance, which brings godly sorrow for the sin we have committed against God, and allows us to receive forgiveness through the bloody sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. Through the revealed word, we see how great and precious this sacrifice of God’s Son truly is, and why our lives must change forever on account of such a love demonstrated for us.

A glorious manifestation of the Spirit brings transformation as the Spirit-activated word manifests righteousness inside of a previously lawless man!  He is delivered from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God’s Son… a person who was once lawless can now fulfill the greatest commandment of God:

“Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength” (Deut. 6:5).

A person can love the Father with all his heart, soul and strength as he displays the commandments in his daily life! The living word of God becomes a person’s delight (his daily bread) as it transforms his mind to become the mind of Christ! There is no greater delight in life, no greater satisfaction, than the revealed word of God entering our souls, allowing us to see God in His fullness!

For it is God Who commanded light to shine out of darkness, Who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ! (2 Cor. 4:6)

Revealed Word in Me

Are you walking in the light of the revealed word of God? Are you shining with the radiance of Christ? Have you become His letter to be known and read by all men, that they too might receive the revelation of God’s word?

May we come to know the Revealed Word who brought forth light at the dawn of creation and is shining today upon the hearts of those who seek His face. Let us embrace the full counsel of God, asking Him to reveal the Lord Jesus Christ through all of the Scriptures.

“For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed” (Romans 8:19).

Come into your revealing as a child of God. Walk in the revealed word of the Spirit, truth, and love. For He is Spirit, He is truth, and He is love. And may we not rest until we know God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and make Him known!

Truly this is abundant life!
