Job 38:3
Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.

Hey listeners welcome back to the Men of Valor podcast. There are so many verses in the Bible that bring me such peace and joy and then there are some that, well for lack of a better term, quite frankly scare the heck out of me!

The verse for today comes from the book of Job. If you know the story of Job, he had quite a life to put it mildly. He had more ups and downs than any man I think I've ever read about. After many words spoken back and forth from God to Job and Job to God, God makes a statement to Job in chapter thirty eight that changes everything. God's statement, "Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you will answer me." If God made that statement to you right now does that bring peace and joy to your mind or do you get the thoughts like I did? 'Oh my, I wonder if it's pay day time?'

My immediate thoughts as I initially read that verse were similar to when I was in school and the teacher would ask students questions. I remember thinking, 'Oh please, ask me a question that I know the answer to that'll make me look good.' If God's questions were something like, 'Why did you do this or why did you say that?' My answers would probably be just like the godless man that I’ve lived my life as for fifty years…I would try to dance around the truth and try to rationalize everything.

"Was your life about you?"
'God, I haven't done that for years' or 'God, I didn't do it that often' or 'God, everybody else did it' and perhaps I would even try to add in some good things that I did.  But as an adult Christian I know that's not the questions I read about much in the Bible. I read questions like, what did you do with the talents I gave you, did you use them or did you bury them? How about the time I blessed you with? You slept for the equivalent of twenty years, you work for the equivalent twenty years and you had more free time than any other generation in history.

How did you spend your time? Were you sharing the gospel with others or were you sharing stories about the fish you caught or the shells you found or what your recent video score was?  What did you do with your life, what did you do with the money I blessed you with?  Was it used to give life to people, was it used to spread the Kingdom of God or was it all used for your comfortable lifestyle?  Was your life about you or about loving me and others?

"How would you answer the ultimate question?"
These questions are the kind of questions I avoided thinking about most of my life because they made me fearful because I knew deep down who I truly was. How about you, you ever ask yourself questions like that that really reveal your true self and your need for a savior? Then the ultimate question, the number one question of all questions from God the father: Why should I let you into heaven with me and my family?

Wow! The answer to that question has been revealed to me by the grace of God, the answer that I would give… Heavenly father if it was on my own, I truly am not worthy to be with You and Your family. On my own I deserve hell and the way I live much of my life backs that up, but God, but God, but God because I truly believe in what Romans 3:22 says that righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew or gentile for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came through Christ Jesus.

"Are you in awe of what God has done for you?"
God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement through the shedding of His blood to be received by faith only by the grace of God I am in awe. I believe our loving Father sent Jesus Christ to shed His blood and die on the cross for us, then rose from the dead so that by believing in Him we're able to be adopted as sons into our Father's glorious family.

Question - are you in awe? Is your life  about the Kingdom of God or about the kingdom of self?  If not about the kingdom of God, it can be!  He died for all who seek Him.  Seek Him today!

We all need to be prepared to man up and be able to correctly answer the ultimate question that God will be asking us.

Heavenly Father, we thank you so much for sending your son Jesus Christ to die on the cross and to rise from the dead that allows us to spend not only eternity with you, but it allows us to spend our time on earth with you, so we just thank you and God bless you all.
