Matthew 10:39
If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it

Hi, Pastor Bob here. Welcome back to the Men of Valor and Daily Living podcast. The verse for today is from Matthew chapter 10 verse 39 and it states, “Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.”

in this podcast, I'm going to discuss the cost of things and an investment that appreciates, you know, increases in value over time.

“We were created to be with Him just as Jesus and the Father are one but we cannot do that when we have sin in our life.”
I don't watch a lot of the news anymore but almost every time I turn it on, I hear the cost of everything keeps increasing: gas…food…cars…inflation! Inflation! inflation! Well, it's not really true that the cost of everything is increasing. There is the cost of one thing that hasn't changed for a long, long time: that's the cost of sin. Sin has always cost separation of the created man from God, the creator of man. We were created to be with Him just as Jesus and the Father are one but we cannot do that when we have sin in our life.

Pastor Jeff made the statement in his sermon “Living in Righteousness” that you can choose to do your sin but you cannot choose the consequences of your choice. Adam and Eve chose to bite the fruit but I doubt they had any idea what the consequences would be. How about you? How many things have you done in your life that if you foresaw the consequences, you would never have done them?

“He sells the things he used to treasure and just invests in following Christ.”
Romans 6:23 states, “the wages of sin is death, (separation from the Lord) but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” From Adam and Eve until you, the cost, the wage of sin by not obeying the Lord, comes to every person and it could be your payday today, you never know!

Now for the investment return that increases in value over time, a guaranteed investment that continues to increase if you keep investing in it. That investment, that return, is investing your life into following the Lord Jesus Christ. Matthew 13:44 is a story of a man who finds the treasure in a field. That treasure: Jesus Christ. He sells the things he used to treasure and just invests in following Christ. Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” You truly, truly will find Him. When you do this, you are no longer spiritually dead. Hallelujah! That's when the investment starts to grow.

Imagine getting an investment return that allows you to spend your life on Earth having the fruit of the Spirit and walking and increasing in love, joy, and peace. Then when you die, you also have eternal life with the Creator, God, who desired from the beginning of time to be with us, along with the fellow believers. Remember Galatians 6:7-8, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows (invests in) to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

What have you sowed your life into? A martyr quoted as saying, “He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep in order to gain what he cannot lose.” What an amazing God we serve. God bless you all.
