Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them.Genesis 6:11-13

Yesterday, the Lord had me thinking about the flood and Sodom and Gomorrah. I began to think of the swift destruction that the Lord had to bring due to how deep the disease of sin had spread. Sin had taken such root in the hearts of men that the only way to stop it from spreading further was to completely eradicate it.

Yet as swift and as overwhelming each of those events were, the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ is even greater. Jesus Christ coming and dying for our sins was the ultimate and most powerful act for the destruction of sin that has ever happened and ever will happen. When we look at the flood or Sodom and Gomorrah we can see the overwhelming power of God. When we look at Him sending His Son to forever eradicate sin we can see an even greater force than both of the previous acts.

Jesus Christ is the final word. His death and resurrection wiped away sin with more finality than both flood waters or fire from the sky. He was and is the ultimate answer to the disease of sin.

Thank you Lord that you came and rescued us from the sin of this world!
