To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
Many people like to think of salvation like a “ticket to heaven”. But salvation has just as much to do with our current life as it does our after life.
Jesus is telling one of His churches in Revelation here that they need to overcome like He overcame. Overcome what? He is calling them to overcome their flesh, their sin and their worldly minds. He is saying that even though I came in the flesh, the flesh had no power to rule me but I was overtaken by the Spirit.
We too must be overcomers of the flesh. We must overcome and conquer every desire and mindset that is contrary to the Spirit of God. It is not those who say a prayer that will sit in heaven with Jesus Christ but it is those who have taken up the power of the cross and conquered over the sin of this world just as Jesus did.
May we live in the power of the cross constantly overcoming sin and being overtaken by the Spirit.
