Independence Day

This weekend we celebrate our Independence Day. The 4th July is a reminder of what America has been rescued from. Our forefathers were once under the oppression of tyranny, but through bravery and sacrifice our nation gained freedom to grow and become their own people. How awesome is it to benefit from such sacrifice!

In light of this holiday, let’s not only celebrate our freedom as a nation. Let’s celebrate our freedom to come back to our Father in heaven.

The Bible makes very clear that all men have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. That each of us have chosen to go our own way and live our lives contrary to what God has desired. The result? Bondage. Bondage to sin that controls us, bondage to Satan who deceives and torments us.

But, the Scripture also states,

“He remembered us in our low estate

His love endures forever.

and freed us from our enemies.

His love endures forever. (Psalm 136:23, 24 NIV)”

Our Father in heaven looks down to see us in our low estate. The low estate of sin and bondage. Yet, he frees us from our enemies! How? By sending The Lord Jesus Christ! We in our own strength or desire could never turn away from sin or be free, especially because of the wickedness of our flesh.

But Jesus came to make a way back to the Father. He made a way to reconcile with God. This is impossible within ourselves, but with Jesus all things are possible. When we trust in The Lord Jesus Christ the only one who can appease God’s wrath, we can be freed and come back to the God who’s love endures forever!

His awesome love was demonstrated at the cross as Jesus SACRIFICED himself for many men and women to free! So let us turn to Jesus today. Let us acknowledge our sins before God and turn by the power of Jesus. Let us honor the love He’s lavished on us by honoring the Son!

This weekend we celebrate our Independence Day as a nation, but much deeper we celebrate our Savior that has brought freedom from our flesh, from sin, and from all darkness.
